Construction work at Enron Field "is expected to
continue for at least four or five months after the ballpark
officially opens" in two weeks, according to Berger & Barron
of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE, who cite officials as saying that
trailers will "remain on-site and some areas will be without
landscaping, but the bulk of the work will occur out of the
public's eye." Though construction managers said that the
ballpark's "fan-accessible areas will be complete," they
"refused to specify what items might need to be worked on"
after the Yankees-Astros exhibition game on March 30.
Harris County-Houston Sports Authority Vice Chair Grover
Jackson: "The public really shouldn't expect everything to
be working on opening day." Astros President of Business
Operations Bob McClaren: "We're all concerned and things are
going 90 mph. But I don't have a big concern that the big
pieces will not be complete" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/16).
ON THE LOOKOUT: Spencer Stuart exec search firm "will
receive a fixed contract" of $41,000, including fees/travel
expenses, "to screen candidates" to become Exec Dir of the
Houston Sports Authority. Sources say that the post "would
pay about" $150,000 per year (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/16).
