TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:00pm ET edition of FSN's
"Fox Sports News," the 11:00pm ET edition of CNN/SI's
"Sports Tonight" and the 11:00pm ET edition of ESPN's
"SportsCenter" all led with the Univ. of MD-Duke Univ. men's
college basketball ACC Tournament final, followed by the
Univ. of IL-MI St. Univ. Big Ten men's final. "Fox Sports
News" had 21:10 of men's/women's college basketball
coverage, "Sports Tonight" had 13:26 and "SportsCenter" had
18:45. Both "Fox Sports News" and "SportsCenter" were 60
minutes long, while "Sports Tonight" was 30 minutes.
NOTES: Molson Canada "has decided" to move its Toronto
and Vancouver CART races to Global TV, ending a 14-year
relationship with the CBC. As part of the deal, Global will
air a weekly, 30-minute news magazine show. Molson Senior
VP/Sports & Entertainment Jeff Carefoote said Global's demos
"fit better with our beer drinking demographics and our
sponsors' demographics" (GLOBE & MAIL, 3/11)....In Columbia,
SC, Time Warner Cable Marketing Dir Dan Santelle said his
company is still in talks with Turner South in a bid to add
the new network to its systems. Turner South will telecast
35 Braves games this season. Santelle: "We hope to have the
situation solved before the first game on April 11"
(Columbia STATE, 3/11)....In Hartford, John Springer wrote
on Bristol, CT's bid to leverage its tie to ESPN for future
growth. Even before ESPN's proposed $500M investment in its
CT headquarters, city "economic development officials were
using ESPN's name to sell the city to other companies and
say they plan to continue capitalizing on the network's name
in marketing" (HARTFORD COURANT, 3/12)....According to data
from Cyber Dialogue, more than ten million adults say they
watch TV while on the Internet, and 24% of those surveyed
watch sports events while online (USA TODAY, 3/13).
