          AWARDS & SALUTATIONS: Former ABC Sports Dir CHET FORTE
     will posthumously receive the Directors Guild of America's
     Lifetime Achievement in Sports Direction Award.  DON
     OHLMEYER will accept the award on Forte's behalf at
     Saturday's DGA Awards (DAILY VARIETY, 3/10)....HERMAN MASIN,
     Editor of Scholastic's Coach Magazine, will be awarded the
     ABP Crain Award for lifetime achievement tonight from the
     American Business Press in NY (Scholastic).
          PROFILES: The DAILY RACING FORM's Matt Hegarty profiles
     Magna Entertainment Corp. Dir JERRY CAMPBELL and writes that
     where Magna Int'l Chair FRANK STRONACH "is the sometimes
     overreaching visionary," Campbell "appears to be more
     realistic.  Stronach has said that he would like to remake
     his tracks into 'total entertainment centers,' while
     Campbell stresses that capital improvements ... will be
     tightly managed" (DAILY RACING FORM, 3/10)....In San Diego,
     Mark Zeigler profiled PHILIP ANSCHUTZ, who "never raises his
     voice.  He likes to wear jeans, boots and a fishing jacket. 
     He goes to church regularly and collects Western art." 
     Former MLS Commissioner DOUG LOGAN: "He's the absolute
     antithesis of L.A.  To the highest degree, he has well-
     grounded values.  It's almost incidental that he has so much
     power and wealth" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 3/9)....Former
     Clippers coach/current Hornets coach PAUL SILAS, on Clippers
     Owner DONALD STERLING: "He's not a bad fellow at all.  He's
     a charming guy that I have a lot of respect for.  The only
     thing I can't understand is why, with all his resources,
     won't he step up to the plate and really make that franchise
     something special" (W-S JOURNAL, 3/10)....In L.A, Larry
     Stewart, on the death of cable exec and sports entrepreneur
     BILL DANIELS: "[Daniels] was not only the nicest, classiest
     billionaire I've ever met, he was simply one of the nicest,
     classiest people I've ever met" (L.A. TIMES, 3/10).
          NOTES: USA TODAY's Andy Seiler reports that the new
     SPIKE LEE-produced film, "LOVE AND BASKETBALL," got a
     "standing ovation" at the Sundance Film Festival and a "warm
     reception" at this week's theater operators convention
     ShoWest.  The film, starring OMAR EPPS as a basketball
     player, opens April 21 (USA TODAY, 3/10)....Patriots LB TEDY
     BRUSCHI is an unrestricted free agent and serving as his own
     negotiator.  Bruschi: "I've been in the league for four
     years. During that time I paid attention to what was going
     on and took notes.  Saving the 3 percent (the standard fee
     charged by a registered agents) was one of the factors. But
     it was more a case that I felt negotiations were something I
     could handle" (BOSTON HERALD, 3/9)....U.S. decathlete DAN
     O'BRIEN appeared on "The Early Show" with Bryant Gumbel this
     morning.  Gumbel asked O'Brien if he is "not the least bit
     dissatisfied with being a part of the Olympic movement"
     because of the IOC bid scandal.  O'Brien: "Absolutely not,
     because I think ... the athletes didn't take any hits. ...
     We always had our doubts and wondered what went on behind
     closed doors with the IOC" ("The Early Show," CBS, 3/10).

NBC Olympics’ Molly Solomon, ESPN’s P.K. Subban, the Masters and more

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with Molly Solomon, who will lead NBC’s production of the Olympics, and she shares what the network is are planning for Paris 2024. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s P.K. Subban as the Stanley Cup Playoffs get set to start this weekend. SBJ’s Josh Carpenter also joins the show to share his insights from this year’s Masters, while Karp dishes on how the WNBA Draft’s record-breaking viewership is setting the league up for a new stratosphere of numbers.
