ARE JERRY JONES' NASCAR PLANS STALLED? TAGLIABUE TO REVIEW

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones' "plan of having two"
Cowboys-branded NASCAR Winston Cup cars in April's DirecTV
500 at TX Motor Speedway (see THE DAILY, 10/1) is "on hold
while NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue reviews the
situation," according to Jean-Jacques Taylor of the DALLAS
MORNING NEWS. Jones said Tagliabue wants the NFL "to make
sure the cross-sport association is well thought out.
Someone might say why let a sport promote [itself] on the
basis of the visibility of another sport." Taylor notes
that the Colts, Steelers and Packers have all sponsored
Winston Cup cars in races over the "past few years," and
Jones added that NFLP has had a "sponsorship relationship
with racing." Jones: "I think it will be resolved, and I
think it will be resolved positively. Under the right
circumstances there's a good benefit to the NFL. It's not
that it hasn't been done before. It's a win-win situation
for NASCAR and the NFL." The Cowboys also want a team-
branded car to compete in the BGN TX 300, which runs the day
before the Winston Cup event (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 2/22).
