FIGURES SHOW THAT SUNS TOOK $12M REVENUE DIP IN FY '99

The NBA lockout contributed to a $12M "total revenue
drop" for the Suns in FY '99, according to Nena Baker of the
ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The lockout also "put a major hurt on the
revenues" at America West Arena, causing payments to the
Suns last year to decrease "nearly" $4M, according to the
arena's audited financial statement. The team took in $1.2M
from arena operations in '99, compared with $5M in '98, due
to a 76% drop in the arena's excess net cash flow. The
arena experienced "double-digit" percentage declines in
revenues from suite licenses, advertising and signage
sponsorships and concessions. Suns CEO Jerry Colangelo: "It
was a big hit." Colangelo, on the team's "short-term
adjustments to compensate for the downturn in revenues":
"We've got relations with financial institutions, and we've
got lines of credit." Baker adds that total facilities
revenues for FY '99 fell 15% to $18.7M (AZ REPUBLIC, 2/19).
