NOTES: CBS' coverage of the final round of the Buick
Invitational was up 27% over last year's 6.3/15 (CBS). USA
TODAY's Rudy Martzke reports that the rating "was the
highest for any non-major tournament" since the '85 Bob Hope
tournament on NBC (USA TODAY, 2/18).
NBA ENJOYS CANADIAN REBOUND: In Toronto, Chris
Zelkovich writes that "things are definitely looking up for
the NBA's prospects in Canada," as the first Raptors game
shown on Sportsnet after the All-Star Game drew 74,000
viewers, up about 45% over the season average (STAR, 2/18).
LOCAL NOTES: In Cleveland, Mary Schmitt Boyer reported
that ratings for Cavs games on WUAB-UPN have fallen from a
"3.7 rating last year to a 3.0 this year," representing a
24% decrease. Cavs Dir of Broadcast Services Dave
Dombrowski: "It's a trend we're seeing around the league. A
lot of teams are down" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 2/17).
For broadcast numbers, one ratings point = 1,008,000
homes. For cable, "Cov. Area" = % of homes tuned in to that
program in that network's universe of subscribers.
