THE DOT.COMS JUST KEEP COMING: NASCAR SC RACE SIGNS SPONSOR

Mall.com has signed a one-year deal with an "option to
renew for up to three years" to become title sponsor of
Darlington Raceway's (SC) March 19 NASCAR Winston Cup race,
according to Pete Iacobelli of the AP. TranSouth has title-
sponsored the race since '82, marking the "second-longest
continuing sponsorship in NASCAR." Darlington President Jim
Hunter said the new pact is "on the lower end" of the
$700,000-2M cost of sponsoring a Winston Cup event. The
race will now be called the Mall.com 400. TranSouth's deal
was set to expire this year, but a "management change at the
company hastened the separation." While "some printed
material" has been sent out with TranSouth's name, the
approximately 80,000 tickets for the event have "not yet
     been printed" (AP, 2/12).
