CONSECO STOCKS UP, ACQUIRES NASCAR MUTUAL FUND MANAGER

          IN-based Conseco Capital Management announced last week
     that it would "take over management" of NC-based StockCar
     Stocks Mutual Fund, which is marketed to NASCAR fans,
     according to Bill Koenig of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR.  Pending
     shareholder approval, Conseco "will become investment
     advisor" to the fund, which will be renamed the Conseco
     StockCar Stocks Mutual Fund.  Terms of the deal were not
     disclosed.  Conseco is the lead sponsor of a new NASCAR team
     owned by A.J. Foyt and has become NASCAR's official
     financial services provider.  Fund Manager John Allen that
     the fund manages about $5.5M. Allen and other fund managers
     will remain at the company's offices in NC.  The stock-car
     fund launched in October of '98 and has shown a return of
     around 19% since then (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 2/12).
