NFLP, which is "facing double-digit declines" in its
apparel business, "will renegotiate" its licensing deal with
Logo Athletic, according to Andy Bernstein of the
SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, who reports that Logo will "keep
most or all" of the 13 NFL teams it outfits. But Bernstein
writes that Logo "wants to reduce" its estimated $15M a year
commitment to the league, "about a third of which pays
league fees and team ad buys, with the rest going to
royalties" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 1/31 issue).
MVP: Pro Player noted that the jersey of Rams QB Kurt
Warner "heads the top 10 retail sales list" for '99, with
14% of the market. Warner is followed by Randy Moss, Tim
Couch, Steve Young, John Elway, Jerry Rice, Edgerrin James,
Terrell Davis, Ricky Williams and Brett Favre (NEWSDAY,
1/29). Warner is the focus of two ads in USA TODAY: He is
featured in a full-page "Got Milk?" ad, and the AFL, where
Warner once played, runs an ad congratulating him on his MVP
award. Warner also stars in the, "I'm Going to Disney
World" spot running nationally (THE DAILY).
NAMES AROUND ATLANTA: NEWSDAY's Steve Zipay reported
that an NFL QB Club panel selected the Visa ad featuring a
"woman and her husband shopping for house paint -- which
ends up on their faces" at an NFL game -- as "the year's top
commercial" (NEWSDAY, 1/29)....In Ft. Worth, Dwain Price
writes that "at least two sources" said that Dennis Rodman
"earned more than $500,000 for appearances at several" Super
Bowl parties (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 1/31)....USA TODAY's
Jill Lieber reports that the NFL "nixed" Faith Hill's plan
to wear a Titans jersey during her performance of the
national anthem. Hill also "asked if she could wear" a
Titans jersey "to meet the media" last Friday, but the NFL
"nixed that, too" (USA TODAY, 1/31)....Broncos RB Terrell
Davis, on his Campbell's Chunky Soup ads: "I have two moms
right now. At first when [my mother] saw it, she liked it.
But everybody thinks the woman [in the ads] is my mother,
and so now ... [my mother] wants to be in the commercials"
