ON THE COURSE: GOLF WORLD's Geoff Russell reports that
David Duval's IMG reps are "trying" to improve Duval's
"sometimes prickly relationship with reporters." IMG has
hired a media relations company to "coach him on ways to
project a more 'enthusiastic' attitude when dealing with
reporters." Also, GOLF WORLD's John Hawkins reports that
Orlando Sentinel columnist Larry Guest, whose biography of
Arnold Palmer "was considered in poor taste by some," has
taken on a "similar project" involving Payne Stewart, "much
to the chagrin of Stewart's widow, Tracey," who is writing
her own book. Tracey has asked Tour players "not to
cooperate with Guest" (GOLF WORLD, 1/28 issue).
BUCS TO BOYCOTT GARY MILLER? In Orlando, L.C. Johnson
writes that insiders say the Bucs "were furious" with ESPN
"Up Close" host Gary Miller "for his line of questioning" of
DT Brad Culpepper and S John Lynch during a show last week.
Miller asked the players "how it felt to be the only two
white guys on the Bucs' defense." The question "apparently
incensed" Bucs coach Tony Dungy, who was "upset Miller would
attempt to create a racial issue." Johnson: "Don't be
surprised if the Bucs ... boycott future ESPN interviews,
particularly on Miller's show" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/27).
...NBC and Scholastic will produce "Scholastic at the
Olympic Games," an after-school TV show geared toward
preteens that will air on MSNBC as part of NBC's coverage of
the 2000 Games (DAILY VARIETY, 1/26).
