MEDIA NOTES

TV MONITOR: Last night's 11:00pm ET edition of CNN/SI's
"Sports Tonight" led with the Cowboys hiring defensive
coordinator Dave Campo as their new head coach, followed by
Suns-76ers. The first report on Super Bowl XXXIV came at
6:13 into the broadcast. Last night's 10:00pm ET edition of
FSN's "Fox Sports News" led with the Cowboys and Campo,
followed by Jaguars defensive coordinator Dom Capers
interviewing for the Patriots head coaching position. FSN's
first Super Bowl update came at 2:22. Last night's 11:00pm
ET edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter" led with the Univ. of
AZ-AZ State Univ. men's college basketball game, followed by
Campo's hiring. The first Super Bowl update was at 9:25.
ON THE COURSE: GOLF WORLD's Geoff Russell reports that
David Duval's IMG reps are "trying" to improve Duval's
"sometimes prickly relationship with reporters." IMG has
hired a media relations company to "coach him on ways to
project a more 'enthusiastic' attitude when dealing with
reporters." Also, GOLF WORLD's John Hawkins reports that
Orlando Sentinel columnist Larry Guest, whose biography of
Arnold Palmer "was considered in poor taste by some," has
taken on a "similar project" involving Payne Stewart, "much
to the chagrin of Stewart's widow, Tracey," who is writing
her own book. Tracey has asked Tour players "not to
cooperate with Guest" (GOLF WORLD, 1/28 issue).
BUCS TO BOYCOTT GARY MILLER? In Orlando, L.C. Johnson
writes that insiders say the Bucs "were furious" with ESPN
"Up Close" host Gary Miller "for his line of questioning" of
DT Brad Culpepper and S John Lynch during a show last week.
Miller asked the players "how it felt to be the only two
white guys on the Bucs' defense." The question "apparently
incensed" Bucs coach Tony Dungy, who was "upset Miller would
attempt to create a racial issue." Johnson: "Don't be
surprised if the Bucs ... boycott future ESPN interviews,
particularly on Miller's show" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/27).
...NBC and Scholastic will produce "Scholastic at the
Olympic Games," an after-school TV show geared toward
preteens that will air on MSNBC as part of NBC's coverage of
the 2000 Games (DAILY VARIETY, 1/26).
