MEDIA NOTES

TV MONITOR: Last night's 11:00pm ET edition of ESPN's
"SportsCenter" led with an update on Chiefs LB Derrick
Thomas, followed by the Univ. of CT-Syracuse Univ. men's
college basketball game. FSN's 10:00pm ET edition of
"Primetime" led with Thomas, followed by the Jets hiring Al
Groh as head coach. The first non-NFL story, at 14:10 into
the broadcast, was UConn-SU. CNN/SI's 11:00pm edition of
"Sports Tonight" was pre-empted on CNN due to coverage of
     the IA caucus (THE DAILY).
NOTES: In N.Y., Bob Raissman notes the "controversial"
fourth-quarter instant replay review of Bucs WR Bert
     Emmanuel's catch during Fox's coverage of Sunday's Bucs-Rams
NFC Championship game and writes "it should have been
discussed in Fox's expanded postgame show Sunday."
Raissman: "If the Foxies thought the in-game analysis was
enough they were dead wrong. They had the time to tackle
the controversy after the game. ... Instead, they slinked
out of the TWA Dome leaving unanswered questions. Lame"
     (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/25)....Sports analysts from KS-based
Coach's Edge, a sports media and Internet company, have
selected "the top five" football plays in NFL history and
"will animate them Sunday" on the GA Dome scoreboard during
the Super Bowl. The company is also supplying pre- and
     post-game animations to www.superbowl.com (K.C. STAR, 1/24).
