NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Browns QB TIM COUCH received standing ovations on both
     the House and Senate floors of the KY General Assembly
     yesterday when it was announced that a stretch of KY 118
     that leads to his hometown of Hyden, KY, will be renamed
     "TIM COUCH PASS" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 1/19)....FIGHT NIGHT
     FOR KIDS FOUNDATION, a non-profit organization, will host 
     FIGHT NIGHT 2000, tonight in Charlotte.  The event will
     raise money for children's charities in Mecklenburg County,
     NC, and the surrounding area.  Celebrity guests include:
     SUGAR RAY LEONARD, JAMES "BONECRUSHER" SMITH and ANGELO
     DUNDEE (Charlotte Sports Commission)....Lakers G KOBE BRYANT
     said that model TYRA BANKS has volunteered to sing "for
     free" on his upcoming debut rap album.  Banks will be with
     Bryant on February 12 at the NBA TEAMUP CELEBRATION,
     performing Bryant's first single, "K-O-B-E" (ORANGE COUNTY
     REGISTER, 1/18)....FORBES' Stephane Fitch reports that the
     $1B plan in '98 for a casino, hotels, theaters and
     restaurants in Niagara Falls, N.Y., by Islanders co-Owner
     HOWARD MILSTEIN stalled later that year when it was rejected
     by "more than 1,000" business leaders and locals.  Fitch
     writes that today "not a single shovel is in the ground" as
     it seems "much of his own money is tied up in professional
     sports" (FORBES, 1/24).
