NAMES IN THE NEWS

          In N.Y., Bernard Weinraub reports that OLIVER STONE's
     "ANY GIVEN SUNDAY" has "taken in more than" $60M and "seems
     headed for financial success."  The film is one of Stone's
     "more mainstream and successful movies in recent years"
     (N.Y. TIMES, 1/13).  Also in N.Y., Richard Johnson reports
     that LAWRENCE TAYLOR has turned into a "hot Hollywood
     commodity" after his performance in "Any Given Sunday." 
     Taylor has signed with PARAMOUNT to appear in "SHAFT
     RETURNS" starring SAMUEL L. JACKSON (N.Y. POST, 1/14).
     ...Celtics President/coach RICK PITINO has purchased a
     10,000-square-foot, 19th-century, five-story townhouse with
     seven bedrooms and four baths in Boston's Back Bay for $5.9M
     (WALL ST JOURNAL, 1/14)....The INDUSTRY STANDARD profiles
     MAGIC JOHNSON's new Web site, URBANMAGIC.COM, an "African-
     American portal" set to launch in April.  Johnson has
     contributed "an undisclosed amount of seed capital" in the
     site, which will be "for and about African-Americans" (THE
     INDUSTRY STANDARD, 1/10 issue).
