FRANCHISE NOTES

In K.C., Steve Rock writes that the Royals sale "won't be completed" at the MLB owners meetings in this month. MLB Exec Dir of PR Rich Levin said that "final approval" of the pending sale "isn't on the docket." Rock: "The development comes as no startling revelation to the Royals. The club, after all, hasn't even begun formally accepting proposals" (K.C. STAR, 1/13)....Canucks GM Brian Burke, who "disputes the notion" that Vancouver can't support the Grizzlies and Canucks: "The temptation is to look at our drop in attendance and say it's because we're competing against basketball. In truth, we're down because we've been out of the playoffs the last three years, we've had major turmoil among the coaching staff and the general manager's office, and we televise all our home games. I think our fans are taking a wait and see approach to see how we're going to do" (CBS SportsLine, 1/12)....Detroit's AFL franchise will be called the "Fury," which was selected from more than 10,000 entries. Also, the team announced a multi-year radio agreement with WDFN-AM, to carry the team's 14 regular season games. The station will carry other Fury-oriented shows and will lend promotional support (Fury).
