NEW POLL SHOWS PACKERS HAVE UPHILL CLIMB TO WIN SUPPORT

A Journal Sentinel poll shows that 64% of WI residents
"are opposed to taxation" to help the Packers pay for a
renovated Lambeau Field or a new stadium, according to Don
Walker of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. If there was
some form of subsidy, the survey of 615 residents taken from
January 4-7 showed that 36% preferred a sports lottery and
17% preferred a local or county-only sales tax. Also, 15%
preferred a statewide sales tax, 13% a state loan, and 6%
favored a regional tax, while 9% "repeated their opposition
to any form of public subsidy." In addition, 70% of WI
residents preferred to renovate Lambeau, "rather than to
build a new stadium," 16% favor a new stadium and 14% said
they didn't know. The survey showed that 40% of men and 23%
of women supported some form of public subsidy. The poll
had a margin of error of +/- 4% (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/8).
