SKYDOME GETS NEW PRESIDENT; SAYS SUITE SALES ARE PROGRESSING

SkyDome Owner Sportsco Int'l announced that Sportsco
President Jake Geleerd will be named SkyDome President,
replacing Michael Downey, who was named Molson Breweries
Senior VP/Marketing (Sportsco). In Toronto, Susanne Craig
reports that industry "speculation was that Sportsco had
shown Downey the door because of a failure" in the sales of
the SkyDome's 161 luxury suites, but Downey said that "there
is no bad blood between" he and Sportsco. Geleerd, on
renewals and new sales of luxury suites: "The initial
proposal was not well received. But the second one was
really well received." Geleerd added that 40 to 50 luxury
suites at the SkyDome "have been leased" and the "goal is to
have sponsors lined up for" between 100 to 110 by the start
of the 2000 season (GLOBE & MAIL, 12/3). The TORONTO STAR's
Tony Van Alphen notes that Geleerd is the SkyDome's fourth
president in less than 16 months (TORONTO STAR, 12/3).
