SBD/2/Facilities Venues

In Ft. Worth, Sean Wood reports that MLB Rangers
officials are "considering" additional amenities next year
at The Ballpark in Arlington including an interactive-games
area, a Wiffle Ball park, picnic tables and a playground for
the "planned" FunZone at Vandergriff Plaza and the
concourses. Wood writes that these types of amenities "give
[MLB] teams a new source of revenue from the price people
pay to play and sponsorships." Rangers VP/Marketing Jeff
Cogen: "There's no reason why it can't be branded. And from
a marketing standpoint, it gives us something else to sell
as the experience" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 12/2)....A
proposed minor league baseball stadium for a short-season
Single A team in Staten Island is now estimated to cost
$75.55M, up from the original $20M estimate. City Council
member John Sabini (D-Queens): "At this price, we should be
     getting a lot better product than a short-season, single-A
baseball team. I'd venture to say there isn't a minor
league stadium at this cost anywhere in America" (N.Y. POST,
12/2)....MD Stadium Authority Exec Dir Bruce Hoffman, on the
planned demolition of Memorial Stadium in Baltimore:
"There's probably money to be made on the seats. I don't
know what else is up there." Babe Ruth Museum Exec Dir Mike
Gibbons said that the museum "hopes to act as the curator
and to acquire artifacts for its collection" from Memorial
     Stadium (Baltimore SUN, 12/1).
