COSTAS TO HOST LATE NIGHT HBO SPORTS SPECIAL IN 2001

Multiple sources report that NBC and HBO will announce
on Tuesday that Bob Costas will anchor a weekly sports
program for HBO Sports starting in 2001 (See THE DAILY,
9/8). In N.Y., Richard Sandomir called it a "'Nightline-
type sports program" which will debut in February 2001. The
show will be live, starting with a report on the topic to be
explored, followed with an interview by Costas. The program
will be carried at 11:00 or 11:30pm ET for "about" 24 weeks
annually and will last 30-45 minutes. HBO "has not
determined which 24 weeks it will run, but it could be seen
in two separate 12-week blocks." HBO is "exploring whether
to have a studio audience" (N.Y. TIMES, 12/11).
