A "blistering internal review" of the 2000 Summer Games
ticketing program "has uncovered a litany of carelessness,
failure responsibility and a lack of transparency on the
part" of the Sydney Olympic board and senior management,
according to Moore & Magnay in a front page report in
today's SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. As a result of the
investigation, the SOCOG "reacted by stripping" Paul Reading
of his ticketing duties and "appointing a new deputy chief
executive to take over all direct areas of responsibility
now controlled by" SOCOG CEO Sandy Hollway. The 58-page
report "details the board's failure to make itself aware of
the ticketing process and illustrates how" Hollway and
Reading, "the group general manager, commercial and
marketing, failed to stay across the major details of such a
critical revenue source." Reading will maintain his
marketing role but will "now take responsibility for
hospitality." Attorney Michael Eyers will become the new
Deputy CEO and will handle ticketing, legal services, media,
legal, technology, finance and community relations. He will
report to Hollway (MORNING HERALD, 11/23). The AP's Tony
Harper writes that the review has led to calls for SOCOG
President Michael Knight's resignation. Knight: "This is not
about finding scapegoats, this is not about finding people
to sack, it's about fixing our procedures" (AP, 11/23).
