COULD STERN BE ASKED QUESTIONS IN SUIT AGAINST SHINN?

NBA Commissioner DAVID STERN "may be pulled into the
sex-assault lawsuit" against Hornets Owner GEORGE SHINN,
according to Liz Chandler of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER.
Attorneys for the woman suing Shinn (see THE DAILY, 10/25)
plan to "interview Stern about what, if any, investigation
the league has done into Shinn's legal problems. The
lawyers are also seeking any NBA investigative files." NBA
Dir of Sports Media Services SETH SYLVAN declined to say
"whether the league had received a subpoena for Stern or
whether it would try to block it." But three NBA officials
said that Stern "is troubled by Shinn's legal problems."
The NBA constitution gives Stern "broad authority to suspend
'any person who in his opinion shall have been guilty of
conduct prejudicial or detrimental to the Association.'"
Stern can also issue fines up to $1M (CHA. OBSERVER, 11/20).
