NAMES IN THE NEWS

          VENUS and SERENA WILLIAMS recently taped an episode of
     "Hollywood Squares," but Venus had a negative "gut reaction"
     to their performance.  Venus: "I'm thinking we probably did
     a bad job.  We're not comedians" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/19).
     ...Canucks President & GM BRIAN BURKE continues to teach a
     sports law class at the Univ. of BC (VANCOUVER SUN, 11/18).
     ...ESPN's SPORTS CENTURY received Northeastern Univ.'s '99
     Excellence in Sports Journalism Award for Broadcast Media
     from the CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF SPORTS IN SOCIETY, in
     conjunction with Northeastern's School of Journalism, at the
     Center's 15th annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday night
     (ESPN).....EVANDER HOLYFIELD was a guest on the "Late Show"
     with DAVID LETTERMAN.  Letterman: "What goes on there when
     you're in the ring and they've got guys with Q-tips putting
     all kinds of stuff on you and then ... they got a guy
     pouring stuff down your shorts.  Does any of that do any
     good?"  Holyfield: "Oh, it does, it does. ... Especially
     when they're pouring it down your pants" (CBS, 11/18).
