NAMES IN THE NEWS

          The PGA Tour has established the PAYNE STEWART Award,
     which will be presented annually to a PGA Tour member who
     best represents the "professionalism and commitment to
     charity, golf tradition and personal presentation that
     Stewart exemplified."  A grant from the Southern Company will
     accompany the award to support several initiatives in
     Stewart's name (PGA Tour).  PGA Tour Commissioner TIM
     FINCHEM: "This is the best step to take to perpetuate Payne's
     memory" (FL TIMES-UNION, 11/18)....The MLB RANGERS
     contributed "more than" $150,000 to a fund established to
     help the victims of the shooting at Wedgwood Baptist Church. 
     The players raised $52,700, an amount matched by the
     organization and team Owner TOM HICKS (FT. WORTH STAR-
     TELEGRAM, 11/18)....In Indianapolis, Barb Albert reports that
     SIMON PROPERTY GROUP is "teaming with" TBS "to create a new
     entertainment network exclusively" for 256 Simon malls by the
     end of 2000.  The net "will feature" programming from
     Turner's cable TV operations, including CNN, TNT and the
     Cartoon Network along with "newly created shows and movie
     premieres" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 11/18)....CART team Owner JOHN
     DELLA PENNA "makes his TV debut" Monday on NBC's "VERONICA's
     CLOSET" (USA TODAY, 11/18)....DAILY VARIETY's Paula Bernstein
     reports that TNT has "greenlit production" for the movie,
     "THE SECOND STRING," a football drama that will feature NFL
     players.  Bernstein adds that the NFL is "cautious about
     being associated with projects that may not present the
     league favorably."  NFLP VP/Marketing & Events DAVID NEWMAN
     said, "We'll walk away from a project if we know it's not the
     image we would like to portray" (DAILY VARIETY, 11/18).
