FRANCHISE NOTES

The Royals "officially restarted" the team's sale
process yesterday by "alerting" investment banking firm J.P.
Morgan to begin accepting ownership proposals. The team
said that the process would be conducted "with a promise of
efficiency and expediency" (K.C. STAR, 11/17)....Ravens
Owner Art Modell, on whether the team has sufficient funds
to land some "well-positioned" free agents in the offseason:
"Cash is not a problem in this organization. The prudent
use of cash is the call of the day." Modell did not comment
on the progress of his search for an investor in the team
(Baltimore SUN, 11/17)....USA TODAY's David Leon Moore
examines L.A.'s "barren" sports landscape in a Sports cover
story and writes that the city's "two best teams at the
moment are a hockey team [Kings] and a soccer team [Galaxy],
and people in L.A. promise to get real excited about both of
them just as soon as they learn the rules" (USA TODAY,
11/17)....A FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM editorial calls the
"moaning" about the MLB Rangers' ticket price restructuring
"largely misplaced. ... The Rangers want to put bottoms in
seats, and they are making their moves where the seats are
     empty" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 11/17).
