NO GO? In a "setback" for Walt Disney's Interactive
efforts, a federal judge issued a "preliminary injunction
that will force Disney and Infoseek Corp. to "stop using the
traffic signal logo" for their Go Network portal. The
ruling is the result of a trademark lawsuit filed earlier
this year by GoTo.com. Disney said it will "move quickly to
seek a stay of the order and an appellate review" (WALL
STREET JOURNAL, 11/15). DAILY VARIETY's Shprintz & Graser
report that the ruling comes "at the worst possible time,"
as Disney is trying to launch Go.com as a separate Internet
business. In a "worst-case scenario, Disney will have to
rename the entire Go Network" (DAILY VARIETY, 11/15).
NOTES: In Toronto, Steve Simmons: "Forget Hockey Night
In Canada. The quintessential hockey broadcast today comes
from ESPN" (TORONTO SUN, 11/14)....In N.Y., Phil Mushnick
wrote that Giants DE Michael Strahan, who appeared on Fox's
pregame show last Sunday, "oozes TV appeal" (N.Y. POST,
11/14)....In Ft. Lauderdale, Jeff Rusnak reported that
possible changes for MLS include a weekly telecast on ESPN
or ESPN2, possibly on Saturday nights. There's "also a
chance of a league highlight show" (SUN-SENTINEL, 11/14).
