MEDIA NOTES

          TV MONITOR: Last night's 11:00pm ET edition of CNN/SI's
     "Sports Tonight" led with Duke-Stanford men's basketball
     from the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at MSG, followed by a
     report on possible NCAA rules violations by UConn G Khalid
     El-Amin.  The 11:00pm ET edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter"
     (which started at about 11:10pm due to NCAA football) led
     with a report on El-Amin along with highlights of UConn-IA,
     followed by Duke-Stanford.  The 11:00pm ET edition of FSN's
     "Primetime" led with Knicks-T'Wolves, followed by Mavericks-
     Heat.  The first NHL story on "Sports Tonight" and
     "SportsCenter," at 25:53 and 13:08 into the broadcasts,
     respectively, was Maple Leafs-Bruins.  The first NHL story
     on "Primetime," at 39:15, was suspended Senators C Alexei
     Yashin accusing the team and the NHL of collusion. 
          THE FIGHT STUFF: In Las Vegas, Dean Juipe reported that
     TVKO is believed to have spent $10M for tomorrow's Evander
     Holyfield-Lennox Lewis bout.  HBO's Seth Greenburg said that
     he is "hoping for" 800,000 buys at $49.95 (LAS VEGAS SUN,
     11/11).  A TVKO official, on the bout: "After a troubling
     year, no one's talking about viewer records anymore" (BOSTON
     HERALD, 11/12).  Excite@Home "will offer" an online scoring
     feature on its Web site, http://sports.excite.com.  Users
     can "send in their score" on each round and the scores will
     then be announced every few rounds (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/12). 
     Excite takes out a quarter-page ad in USA TODAY reminding
     viewers to "Remember To Vote" (THE DAILY).
          NOTES: Fox's Jimmy Kimmel, responding to critics of his
     role on "Fox NFL Sunday": "Fox brought me in to appeal to a
     younger crowd -- like 11-to-13 year-olds -- but these
     (critics) were probably sportswriters before there was an
     NFL.  It's a trend for me.  They hate me at first, then I'm
     all right" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 11/12)....MTV will air more
     than seven hours of taped segments of the MTV Sports & Music
     Festival beginning at 1:00pm ET Saturday (USA TODAY, 11/12).

TNT’s Stan Van Gundy, ESPN’s Tim Reed, NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown. SBJ’s Tom Friend also joins the show to share his insights into NBA viewership trends.
