NFL: The SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's John Lombardo cites
sources as saying that Lions Owner William Clay Ford is
"interested in buying" into the AFL. Ford "would be part of
an investment group" that could include William Davidson's
Palace Sports & Entertainment (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/8
issue)....Ravens Owner Art Modell's wife Pat "spoke out
publicly for the first time about the behavior of some of"
Art Modell's "detractors" in Cleveland last Sunday. Pat
Modell, on a local news report that featured anti-Modell
chants and showed "dog droppings on top of a sidewalk
outline of a figure that was supposed" to be her husband,
Art: "It was so disgusting. It was vulgar, very vulgar.
It's demeaning to have to sit and see something like that,
especially when it's about you or someone in your family"
(Baltimore SUN, 11/10)....In Buffalo, Jerry Sullivan wrote
that Saturday's arrest of Bills OT Marcus Spriggs, WR Jeremy
McDaniel and former practice squad player Brian Edwards for
allegedly assaulting two women at a local nightclub, means
that eight Bills "have been charged with violent offenses"
against women in the last five years. Sullivan wondered why
Bills management didn't "issue any sort of general
condemnation of the rampant mistreatment of females in
society" after the arrests (BUFFALO NEWS, 11/9).
NOTES: In DC, Jason La Canfora reports that the
Capitals "will be meeting with computer experts" this week
to "discuss the possibility of installing" a video editing
system on their team bench at the MCI Center. The system
"would allow" the Capitals to show video to the players
during the game (WASHINGTON POST, 11/10). Capitals Owner
Ted Leonsis, who said that he "sees a profit" for the
Capitals in three years: "I'm not going to bitch and moan
about the fans not being interested or about the [CBA]. I'm
