JETS BIDDERS IN SEARCH OF TRUTH, JUSTICE ... AND OWNERSHIP?

BuytheJets.com, an on-line fan group that is "being
blocked from making an offer" to purchase the Jets, wants
the U.S. Justice Department "to force open the bidding,"
according to Richard Sandomir of the N.Y. TIMES. While NFL
rules require that teams "be run by one partner with at
least" 30% of the team, with no more than 25 limited
partners, about 11,000 people "have provided" BuytheJets.com
with "tentative commitments" worth $20M. BuytheJets.com co-
Founder John Crotty: "We want the Justice Department to let
us be a bidder. The Government has a record of helping to
open the competitive process to fair bidding." More Crotty:
"The support would be a lot deeper than 11,000 if we were
allowed to bid. We feel we're being discriminated against
because of who we are" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/27).
