ESPN'S KERNAN SETS RECORD STRAIGHT ON PARROTT'S SLIP UP

On last night's "RPM 2Night," ESPN's John Kernan said,
"Normally I don't point out mistakes made by other media
outlets, but I think I need to straighten out something that
was in the 'Sports on TV' column in Wednesday's USA Today.
It [said] a technical difficulty on our part allowed an
audible profanity from Dale Jarrett to make the air during
Sunday's Winston 500. There was no technical difficulty, it
was a live mic. And the words that made air in no way
involved Dale Jarrett. In fact, he was unaware of the
situation until the completion of the race. Crew chief Todd
Parrott apologized for the unfortunate incident on Monday,
but today NASCAR fined him $5,000" ("RPM 2Night," 10/20).
In Wednesday's USA TODAY, Rudy Martzke indirectly quoted
ESPN's Mike Soltys who cited technical difficulties led to
the expletive making it on air (USA TODAY, 10/20).
