MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

A model of the Winston Cup Dodge Intrepid, which will
mark the manufacturer's return to the NASCAR series in 2001,
along with a race truck, were shown on last night's "Sports
     Tonight" ("Sports Tonight," CNN/SI, 10/14). Dodge VP/Car &
Truck Division Jim Julow: "For the Dodge brand, it's just
huge. ... This is going to give us so much exposure and
visibility, and it's something, frankly, our owners and fans
have been asking for for a long time" ("RPM 2Night," ESPN,
10/14)....In Denver, Katrina Martin writes that despite the
Broncos' 1-4 record, demand for the team's merchandise
"still exists -- although sales are a bit slower." Denver's
Downtown Sportscards Owner Pete Kriebel said that John Elway
jerseys are "still moving," but Broncos RB Terrell Davis
items are not since his season-ending injury: "No one is
interested in Davis anymore. I haven't sold one Davis
jersey since he went down" (DENVER POST, 10/15)....In
Boston, Fee & Raposa report that Red Sox SS Nomar
Garciaparra has "apparently" signed a deal with clothier
Joseph Abboud "to wear Abboud duds" and promote the clothing
line (BOSTON HERALD, 10/15)....An AP report states that FL
State Univ. "already had a secret, $10,000, [Heisman]
marketing campaign ready in case [WR Peter] Warrick's
standing slipped on the field." If it runs, the campaign
will feature the tag line, "You'll have to catch Peter
Warrick on Saturday nights, because no one else can," and
include a mailing of an "unidentified item" to more than
1,000 potential Heisman voters (WASHINGTON POST, 10/15).
...John Daly is playing in the Las Vegas Invitational
wearing an Ancona-branded golf apparel (THE DAILY).
