BLUE JACKETS' INAUGURAL UNIFORMS: "CLASSIC BUT CONTEMPORARY"

The Blue Jackets unveiled their uniforms in Columbus yesterday before a crowd of 4,000-plus, and the COLUMBUS DISPATCH's Aaron Portzline reports that the team's inaugural jersey features a "classic but contemporary combination of red, white, blue and a tinge of lime." Blue Jackets President & GM Doug MacLean: "It's exactly what we were looking for. We think it's a lasting look, one that will stand the test of time." The home jerseys "are based in white with capital blue numbers, and the road uniform is capital blue with white numbers. The Blue Jackets will wear red pants at home and on the road." The "'CBJ' ligature is the crest of the front of the jersey," and "Stinger," the team's mascot, has a "spot on each of the shoulder pads." The "end of the shirt sleeves have more stars, which represent patriotism and Ohio's role in the Union Army during the Civil War." At yesterday's event, the team offered about 500 jerseys for sale to the public -- $80 replicas and $175 authentics. MacLean: "When you have almost 5,000 show up for a jersey unveiling ... well, that's unheard of in the NHL" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 10/15).
