MEDIA NOTES

TV MONITOR: Last night's 11:00pm ET editions of ESPN's
"SportsCenter," FSN's "Primetime" (Fox Sports Net OH) and
CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" all led with the death of Wilt
Chamberlain. The second story on "SportsCenter," at 8:30
into the broadcast, was the cancellation of the Lakers-
Wizards preseason game due to a cracked beam at the new
Alltel Arena in Little Rock, AR (See #18). "SportsCenter"
followed that with G Ron Harper inking a two-year deal with
the Lakers. "Primetime" followed Chamberlain, at 6:04, with
Jets coach Bill Parcells' reaction to his team's Monday
night loss to the Jaguars, followed by the Nuggets-Bulls
preseason game. "Sports Tonight" followed Chamberlain's
death, at 7:16, with an update on Game One of the NLCS,
followed by an update on FSU WR Peter Warrick (THE DAILY).
NOTES: In Portland, Dwight Jaynes noted that the Trail
Blazers are running a half-hour "informercial" on local TV
to push tickets sales. Jaynes: "[Blazers Owner] Paul Allen
... will spend more money selling those tickets than he will
earn by their sale -- just to have capacity crowds and a big
     home-court advantage" (Portland OREGONIAN, 10/12)....In
Dallas, Steve Davis writes that retired player Alexi Lalas
should be utilized on MLS game coverage: "He's sharp and has
a charisma that comes across well on television. And MLS
needs his wit and intellect on its woeful broadcasts"
(DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/13)....Fox Sports World Espanol
runs a full-page ad in AD AGE seeking advertisers support
for its coverage of the Caribbean Winter League Baseball and
the Caribbean World Series (THE DAILY)....TodaysSports.com
has hired Harvey Frommer to provide occasional features,
book reviews and guest columns (TodaysSports.com)....Hoop,
the official publication of the NBA, received two American
Graphic Design Awards, which honor excellence in magazine
communication and graphic design (NBA)....Pseudo Programs
and the NFL QB Club have agreed to launch a lifestyle-
oriented pro football channel at Pseudo.com featuring QB
Club members. As part of the four-year deal, Pseudo gains
exclusive Internet broadcasting rights for original
lifestyle-oriented QB Club programming and will collaborate
and work with QB Club players to develop live, animated and
interactive shows. QB Club Chair Bernie Kosar will also
gain a seat on Pseudo's BOD (Pseudo).
