FALCON MASCOT IN THE DOGHOUSE AFTER SPOOF ON NFL SPONSOR UPS

UPS officials "weren't amused" two weeks ago during the
Ravens-Falcons game at the GA Dome when the Falcons' mascot
Freddie "donned a [UPS] uniform and bumbled his way through
a package-delivery routine," according to Mollenkamp & Jaffe
of the WALL STREET JOURNAL, who write that the Atlanta-based
company is an NFL sponsor and part of the Falcons' deal
"sometimes includes Freddie delivering a game ball to a
Falcons fan." During his skit, Freddie also dropped a large
box marked "Fragile/This End Up" several times and sat on
the box and crushed it. Though the act "got a laugh from
the crowd," UPS Marketing Manager Jim Lynch said that the
routine "will not be done again." Falcons VP/Marketing Rob
Jackson: "We have talked to Freddie. We have resolved the
situation." Lynch is "satisfied" with the team's response
and said that the incident "is not indicative of our
relationship with the Falcons" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/13).
