Published September 27, 1999
After witnessing the success of MLB's HR Derby at the All-Star Game, the MLBPA is "launching its own version" called "Big League Challenge," and is telling "potential sponsors that it has commitments from its top stars to compete, including Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire," according to Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK. The show will be taped in February and "cut into 10 half-hour shows," with a one-hour finale. It will air in primetime on ESPN on Thursdays from April-June, 2000. The price tag for title sponsorship is "around" $2M, which includes ESPN media (BRANDWEEK, 9/27).
