IHL PRESIDENT MOSS SAYS LEAGUE MOVED TOO QUICK ON EXPANSION

          IHL President Doug Moss said that there's "no sense of
     urgency to start another round of expansion" despite
     "preliminary discussions" with Toronto and Montreal,
     according to Tim Campbell of the HOCKEY NEWS.  Moss, on the
     13-team IHL, which once "grew" to 19 teams in 1995-96: "We
     got into trouble on a couple of fronts.  We tried to rush
     too much."  More Moss, on possible expansion: "We've had
     lots of positive conversations, but nothing is imminent. ...
     Right now, I'd like to take a page out of [NHL Commissioner]
     Gary Bettman's book, that we'd have no expansion until we
     have buildings and the right kind of owners available in
     those markets" (HOCKEY NEWS, 9/24 issue).
