DUE TO FOUL-MOUTHED HOST, GLOBE PULLS WRITERS FROM RADIO GIG

The Boston Globe "has prohibited its staff writers and
part-time employees" from appearing on WEEI-FM's "The Big
Show," the drive-time show hosted by Glenn Ordway, according
to Howard Manly of the BOSTON GLOBE. In a memo delivered
last night, management said, "We're doing this because we
find the show's content offensive." Manly notes the ban
"primarily affects" three of the paper's "most frequent
guests": Dan Shaughnessy, Bob Ryan and Ron Borges. Globe
management wrote that newspaper employees "are still free to
appear on other" TV and radio shows "as long as newspaper
management believes those appearances don't 'impair the
credibility or integrity of The Globe'" (BOSTON GLOBE,
9/17). Just before the memo, Shaughnessy had resigned from
"The Big Show" after five years due to "philosophical
differences." Shaughnessy: "I didn't like the direction in
which the show was going" (BOSTON HERALD, 9/17).
