MLB MEETINGS, V: TAVARES SAYS DISNEY ALL EARS ON SALE TALK

Anaheim Sports President Tony Tavares, on reports of
Walt Disney's sale of the Mighty Ducks and Angels: "We're
not nearly as close as everybody thinks we are." Tavares
said the Angels have not sought MLB's permission to show
their books to prospective owners, but the company has
"taken a position that it would listen to logical offers for
its teams, but I don't think there's any auctions going on."
Tavares: "The best way to describe the situation is that
Disney is in a listening mode right now. But if you're
asking me my intuition on the thing, I think they'd sell
both. They wouldn't sell one" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 9/16).
FSN's Keith Olbermann noted Tavares' comments came "even
though [Disney's] own sports Web site" has reported that the
"company has completed the parameters of a deal to sell both
teams" for $650M. Olbermann: "If [Tavares is] in a surfing
mode, he can read on ESPN.com that the halos and quackers
are going to Henry Nicholas III" ("Primetime," FSN, 9/15).
