COULD SPURS BE READY TO SADDLE UP AND MOVE TO ST. LAURIES?

New Blues Owner Bill Laurie "is interested in bringing
an NBA team to St. Louis" and his newly-acquired Kiel
Center, according to Bernie Miklasz of the ST. LOUIS POST-
DISPATCH. Over the past few months, Laurie "has gone on
fact-finding missions to San Antonio, Dallas, Cleveland and
Atlanta to check out NBA franchises." Miklasz writes that
the Spurs "may turn to another city" if San Antonio voters
reject a November ballot issue that would raise hotel
occupancy and rental-car taxes to help build a new arena
(ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 9/14). CBS SportsLine's Mike Kahn
wrote that if the Spurs fail to get public funding for their
proposed $175M arena, then "that team is gone ... with Bill
Laurie ... the most likely suitor" (CBS SportsLine, 9/13).
