The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau is "teaming
up" with the MLB Rangers for a new TV/radio promo that
"touts the Metroplex to out-of-town visitors and markets
Arlington hotels," according to Steve McLinden of the FT.
WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. The promo will "likely spill over into
next season and possibly become a regular marketing
strategy." The Rangers "are asking out-of-town callers who
respond to their new TV and radio ticket ads if they need
accommodations. If so, callers are given the toll-free
number of the bureau" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 9/14).
THE LONE RANGERS: In Dallas, Ken Daley writes that
Rangers Owner Tom Hicks and team Exec VP John McMichael will
attend their first MLB owners meetings in Cooperstown, NY,
"without the comforting and experienced presence" of former
team President Tom Schieffer. Daley: "It will be up to
Hicks to reestablish the Rangers as an up-and-coming
baseball heavyweight. It will be up to McMichael to help
steer Hicks through the shifting maze of potential allies
and enemies" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/14).
