DOES GOLFWEB-PGATOUR.COM ALLIANCE CREATE NEWS CONFLICT?

GolfWeb is facing a "new predicament," as the site's
execs and users "struggle with" its new alliance with
PGATour.com, according to Susan Fornoff of the S.F.
EXAMINER, who questioned whether the alliance permits
GolfWeb to "produce its usual and sometimes biting
commentary." PGATour.com Managing Editor Helen Ross, asked
if PGATour.com would "have the last word" on content: "Yes,
we're going to have some input, but we've talked about a lot
of ways to address issues, such as point-counterpoint, pro-
con formats." Fornoff noted that the alliance leaves the
LPGA Tour "odd man out," as the PGA Tour and its partners,
the Senior Tour and Nike Tour, "have clear first billing
over the LPGA Tour." Ross: "We're still running stories on
the LPGA and we're still going to have people at LPGA
events. It's differently placed, but the information is
still there." GolfWeb Exec Editor Stu Schneider: "This is
all so new, it's still hard to say how it's going to work.
But the tour has said it's not going to stand in the way if
we report the facts" (S.F. EXAMINER, 9/11).
