IS DEVILS OWNER MC-MULLEN A DECISION TO PURCHASE THE JETS?

          Devils Owner John McMullen has shown a "reluctance to
     comment publicly" on the sale of the Jets, but "indications
     are" that he is interested in buying the team, according to
     Paul Needell of the Newark STAR-LEDGER.  McMullen: "I really
     have to say I just can't talk about (the Jets).  Everybody
     is so sensitive about this subject.  I'm just not going to
     talk about it" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 9/12).

     Bill Parcells doing interviews with "GQ" and "Real Sports
     with Bryant Gumbel": "Perhaps he is trying to boost the
     value of the (Jets) franchise.  This could be a way of doing
     a favor to the Hess family.  By commanding this kind of
     television presence he's heightening the profile of the
     franchise" (Bob Raissman, N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/12).
