HAIL TO THE VICTORS: BANK ONE INKS MARKETING DEAL WITH MI

          Chicago-based Bank One has signed a three-year
marketing agreement with the Univ. of MI (UM) athletic
department "that gives it signage rights at most university
sporting events," according to Melissa Preddy of the DETROIT
NEWS. The deal also calls for Bank One to advertise on UM-
related TV and radio shows and in sports event programs and
offer its customers checks featuring photos of MI Stadium
and other football pictures. Financial details of the deal
were not released. Bank One, which "absorbed" NBD retail
branches last year when it merged with First Chicago NBD
Bank, has partnerships with the Cowboys and LA St. Univ. and
holds the naming rights to Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix
(DETROIT NEWS, 8/31). Bank One will receive commercial
exposure at most UM athletic facilities, but not at MI
Stadium, which does not allow corporate signage (Bank One).
