CANES' TICKET SALES GAIN STRENGTH AS TOTAL SURPASSES 4,000

Hurricanes CEO Dean Jordan said yesterday that season-
ticket sales for the team have surpassed 4,000 and suggested
that the figure "could be closer to" 6,000, according to
Cecil Harris of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. Jordan: "We
could finish in the top 20 in the NHL in season tickets
sold. I can tell you that we will be many slots from the
bottom." The team sold "only" 3,000 season tickets in '97-
98, when the team played its inaugural season in Greensboro,
and has finished last in the league in home attendance the
past two seasons. Seats at the new, 18,711-seat Raleigh
Entertainment & Sports Arena, which is scheduled to open in
nine weeks, will range from $17-99. A $64 family plan will
also be offered for selected games. The team plans to launch
a new series of TV commercials on September 13 featuring C
Ron Francis and G Arturs Irbe (NEWS & OBSERVER, 8/27).
