ON THE WAY OUT? WILL USOC'S SCHULTZ MAKE IT TO SYDNEY?

USOC Exec Dir Dick Schultz is "under fire" and "could
be replaced ... perhaps before the Sydney Olympics next
year," according to sources of Allen & Dodd of USA TODAY,
who write that Schultz's "status is tied to a proposed
overhaul" of the USOC structure, "details of which" will
come this weekend. Olympic sources say that several
committee members are "upset with Schultz's management" of
the 500-member staff. Sources add that the "heat increased"
in April with Schultz's "handling" of former USOC Deputy
Secretary & OPUS President John Krimsky's departure.
Schultz said that he "acknowledges the concerns" but
speculating on his departure is going "too far, too soon."
USOC President Bill Hybl said that a $500,000 management
study by The McKinsey Group "will propose major changes."
The proposals "can't be approved" by the BOD until April,
though some members expect Schultz "to stay on until they're
implemented" after the Sydney Games (USA TODAY, 8/25).
