HOW WILL HOLMGREN'S EXIT AFFECT NFL COMPETITION COMMITTEE?

The NFL "has a huge hole to fill on its important rules
making body now that" Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren "has
unexpectedly resigned from the league's competition
committee," according to CNN/SI's Peter King. King said,
Holmgren "blamed his departure on his busy new schedule with
the Seahawks. But there's another reason -- one that
Holmgren didn't include in his resignation letter. The work
of the competition [committee] was getting increasingly
shorter shrift at NFL meetings, and this year, the committee
addressed ownership for just thirty minutes. Holmgren felt
he was spinning his wheels on issues the owners didn't
really care about" ("Sports Tonight," CNN/SI, 8/19).
