          Qwest Communications shareholder SCOTT BORNFREUND has
     filed suit against Qwest Chair and its largest shareholder
     PHILIP ANSCHUTZ.  The suit accuses Anschutz of "illegal
     insider trading involving Qwest's merger with US West" and
     of "'misusing' advance knowledge of the deal to net more
     than" $400M in "illegal profits through trading in Qwest's
     stock."  Anschutz called the charges "without merit" (DENVER
     POST, 8/14)....WTA Tour player ALEXANDRA STEVENSON,
     responding to criticism surrounding her "attempt to get the
     crowd going even more" by raising her hands after a double-
     fault by opponent ANKE HUBER: "Tennis is supposed to be fun. 
     It's entertainment.  You want the local average bar guy out
     there to scream his head off.  Tennis needs that.  That's
     what I want to do -- cross over."  IMG is "close to signing"

     SEAN ELLIOTT, awaiting a kidney transplant, "cancelled a
     planned appearance" at TX Gov. GEORGE W. BUSH's IA campaign
     stop Friday in order to "rest and avoid the media scrutiny"
     (S.A. EXPRESS-NEWS, 8/13)....CNN/SI "Sports Tonight" co-
     anchor FRED HICKMAN will appear on ABC's "Politically
     Incorrect With Bill Maher" on Tuesday, August 17 at 12:05am
     ET (CNN/SI)....About 10,000 volunteers attended PSINet
     Stadium Saturday to appear as extras in the WB film, "THE
     REPLACEMENTS," which is based "loosely" on the '87 NFL
     players' strike and the Redskins "undefeated fill-in squad"
     (WASHINGTON POST, 8/15)....Lakers C SHAQUILLE O'NEAL
     appeared on the "Late Show" with DAVID LETTERMAN on Friday. 
     O'Neal, when asked by Letterman if he wrote his new
     children's book "Shaq and the Beanstalk and Other Very Tall
     Tales": "I wrote most of it."  O'Neal, on playing with
     DENNIS RODMAN: "He is a very hard worker. But off the court,
     he doesn't have all his marbles" ("Late Show," CBS, 8/13).
