SBD/9/Facilities Venues
ON A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY ... IN DOWNTOWN L.A.?
Published July 9, 1999
The MLS Galaxy said that "it would seek help" from the
city of L.A. to "find" a 60-acre site for a new $60M
stadium, according to the AP. Galaxy President Tim Leiweke
said that the organization "would not only pay to build the
new stadium," but it would build a dozen other soccer
facilities in the city. Leiweke said that the team's home
field, the 90,000-seat Rose Bowl, is "too big" (AP, 7/8).
In L.A., Patrick McGreevy wrote that Leiweke "agreed to a
[city] commission request to report back" in 30 days on
whether "the team would be interested in pursuing the use
of" the Hansen Dam site in downtown (L.A. TIMES, 7/8).
