DAVID TAKING A STERN LOOK AT NBA'S GAME-DAY PRESENTATION
Published July 6, 1999
Since the death of WWF wrestler Owen Hart, the NBA "is
taking a hard look at how far it's pushing the game
presentation envelope," according to Steve Bulpett of the
BOSTON HERALD, who wrote that the NBA "never thought it
would be competing with professional wrestling and
international television outlets for viewers." NBA
Commissioner David Stern, on dangerous entertainment at
games: "I think it's a fair point. When that happened in
the WWF, we immediately stopped rappelling, subject to a
check on it. And I think it's a fair issue that we're going
to look at between seasons." Bulpett added that "Stern's
regime has championed the rise of arena sideshows, but there
is no way he can miss the potential dangers." Stern: "I
think the fans enjoy the experience, but I do have concerns
that someone's going to jump out of the stands or fall out
of the stands grabbing for a T-shirt" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/4).
