X Games officials "plan to meet" with S.F. city officials this week "to review this year's event and discuss plans" for 2000, "in hopes of securing sites and dates as quickly as possible," according to Darren Sabedra of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. X Games Dir of Marketing & Communications Chris Stiepock: "It's an issue that we want to resolve pretty quickly." Sabedra wrote that if the X Games "continue at their current sites," Piers 30 and 32, organizers "understand the area will be heavily congested" next summer because the Giants' new stadium "is a few blocks away." X Games organizers met with a dozen cities "interested in hosting" the event next year, including reps from Boston, L.A. and San Diego (MERCURY NEWS, 7/4).
