IS C-SPAN NEXT? FLEDGLING NET TALKING SETTLEMENT WITH ESPN

A U.S. District Court judge in NY on Wednesday "denied"
ESPN's request for a "temporary restraining order ... that
would have prohibited" AL-based RSN CSPN from using the CSPN
name and logo, according to Michael Tomberlin of the
BIRMINGHAM NEWS. But CSPN Owner Kirk Wood said the two
sides are talking "about a settlement" to ESPN's suit. He
said he did not know if removing the "C" from CSPN would be
an "acceptable change, but he hopes to find an expedient
resolution to the case." Tomberlin noted that ESPN's "size
and financial resources could mount a legal fight that would
prove costly to upstart CSPN." An August 4 court date has
been set "to hear arguments" (BIRMINGHAM NEWS, 7/29).
