NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Sabres G DOMINIK HASEK said that he plans to become
     more active in running his sports clothing business -- The
     Dominator -- when he retires after next season (NATIONAL
     POST, 7/30)....Both AROUND THE RINGS and the SALT LAKE
     TRIBUNE report that the SLOC has billed Australian IOC
     member PHIL COLES $42,000 for expenses he and his family
     incurred on a UT ski trip paid for by the city's Olympic bid
     committee.  Coles has offered to repay those vacation costs,
     but SLOC spokesperson Caroline Shaw said that SLOC "does not
     believe Mr. Coles is legally obligated to repay those
     vacation costs" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 7/30).....The WTA Tour's
     JELENA DOKIC "confirmed that she would seek to terminate her
     contract with" Advantage Int'l.  She has hired former IMG
     Senior VP PAUL GREGORY to "review all her contracts"
     (Melbourne AGE, 7/30)....LUC LONGLEY will be the lead
     investor in acquiring an interest in the Perth Wildcats, a
     National Basketball League team in Australia (Melbourne AGE,
     7/30)....SYLVESTER STALLONE plans to write, direct and star
     in ROCKY VI.  United Artists plans a "medium" budget of $30M
     for the film (Mult., 7/29)....ESPN's Al Bernstein reported
     that the HARD ROCK HOTEL in Las Vegas "will host its first
     boxing card" on August 28.  The card, featuring WBA super
     welterweight titleholder DAVID REID, will be called "Rock
     the Joint: The Inaugural Brawl" (ESPN, 7/29)....Reds P SCOTT
     WILLIAMSON, who's a "longtime watcher" of the soap opera
     "Days Of Our Lives," visited NBC's Burbank Studios Wednesday
     and "was delighted with the friendliness and sincerity" of
     the actors, "particularly" CHRISTIE CLARK.  Williamson: "I
     couldn't believe how nice she was and how she took time to
     talk to me.  It meant a lot to me, and it really made me
     look at fans differently.  Now I know how much it means to
     them when they meet their favorite player and how crushing
     it can be if the guy's a jerk" (CINCINNATI POST, 7/29).
